News from the Guidance Office:
In the remaining weeks of school classroom guidance will address Healthy Choices, Career and finally saying good-bye for the summer.
Healthy Choices includes discussing the definition of a drug and safe ways to use medicine. In all grades our working definition of a drug is a substance other than food that can affect the way people think, feel or act. We will discuss the importance of keeping our brain safe & healthy, as it is the computer of our body and controls how we think, feel and act.
We will also talk about peer pressure and social pressures that may lead to drug abuse. Students will also become familiar with and practice resistance skills. Having these conversations at early ages can be very effective in guiding healthy decision making when children are faced with difficult choices in their future.
Attention families of 5th grade students. Today your child will come home with some very important information around internet safety. While Mrs. Walters and I just finished a unit on internet safety we believe it is important to continue this conversation at home. Please take some time to look over the materials with your child. Should you have any questions feel free to contact Mrs. Walters or me.
