Four Winds Nature Program

What is Four Winds?

The Four Winds Nature Program  allows parents to have meaningful engagement in their child's classroom. A Four Winds trainer instructs parents in natural science topics and shows them how to teach using hands-on activities. The trainings are offered at C.P. Smith's Learning Center, four times a year. All costs are covered by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

How Can I Get Involved?

If a parent would like to volunteer, the first thing they should do is contact one of the program coordinators. The C.P. Smith coordinators are Julia Davenport juldav333@gmail.com and Carmen George cgeorge@burlingtontelecom.net.

There are daytime training and an evening training for each topic. If a parent can't make either training session, the program coordinators can either set up a one-on-one training or arrange for the parent to observe another parent when they teach.
Typically the time teaching in the classroom is one hour. The teachers and students at C.P. Smith adore the program and are very supportive. Many classrooms have a couple parents who team teach the topic.

C.P. Smith is the only public school in the Burlington School District to offer the Four Winds Nature Program. Two of the area private schools offer it as well.
